Have you got the right stuff?

Posted Wednesday, May 17, 2006

A survey conducted earlier this year by Manpower indicated that employers were having difficulty finding the right people to fill jobs despite high unemployment. How do you fit in this?

When you look at the marketplace, what are you doing to separate yourself from the others? Do you have habits that may impact your ability to be hired or remain employed? Also, how do you know what job is right for you?

People hire based on skills and knowledge, and fire based on attitude. There is a tremendous opportunity for the right candidates to turn this into an employees market, but its going to take more than just school. Many positions want trained people. Your attitudes toward your development can impact that.

When you plan for your next career move, consider the following:
1) Do I have the skills needed to get the career I want?
2) Are these skills sufficient enough to make me a hot prospect for an employer?
3) Am I able to effectively communicate with people?
4) Do I have a clear direction I want to go?
5) Am I passionate about what I do?
6) What do I need to do to become the best?

These are just some questions to ask. You may have many more. Take time to plan your next move, and you won't be disappointed.
